Ann Wasserman holds a degree in anthropology from Northwestern University. She has been working with antique quilts for nearly forty years, and has taught about quilt history and design at the Field Museum of Natural History and the Art Institute in Chicago as well as at numerous quilt guilds and historical societies. In 2013, she published her book "Preserving Our Quilt Legacy: Giving antique quilts the care they deserve."

Ann Wasserman holds a degree in anthropology from Northwestern University. Her background in anthropology has led her to appreciate the historical and social significance of everyday objects such as quilts. Ann has been working with antique quilts for nearly forty years. In 1981, she began working at an antique quilt gallery, where she was introduced to the field of textile conservation and restoration. 

She has received kudos for her repair work from museum and conservation professionals, collectors, and high-end antique dealers. Ann has taught about quilt history and design at the Field Museum of Natural History and the Art Institute in Chicago as well as at numerous quilt guilds and historical societies.

Ann finds caring for old quilts inspiring, and appreciates working on any type of quilt, from exhausted whole-cloth comforters carrying fond memories of overnights at grandma's house, to a 160 year-old historical gem that was sold at Sotheby's and featured on their sale catalog cover.

Ann Wasserman began sewing clothing at age 12.  She learned to quilt in 1978, after her graduation with a degree in anthropology from Northwestern University. She took a 6-week class to provide a colorful outlet from her work as a data input technician.

Quiltmaking grabbed hold of her imagination, and she hasn’t stopped quilting since.  Her background in anthropology has led her to appreciate the historical and social significance of everyday objects such as quilts as well as the enjoying the artistry and sewing.  

Ann began working at an antique quilt gallery in 1981.  There, she was introduced to the field of textile conservation and restoration, and has been expanding her knowledge of techniques and philosophy ever since.  She has received kudos for her repair work from museum and conservation professionals, collectors, and high-end antique dealers.

In 2013, she published her book "Preserving Our Quilt Legacy: Giving antique quilts the care they deserve."

In addition to working with old quilts, Ann also creates art quilts.  Her artwork has been exhibited in juried shows throughout the country, and published in the United States and Japan. In 2001, her career expanded to include costuming for the theater, and in 2011 she took up vintage clothing repair as well.

Ann has lectured at numerous quilt guilds and historical societies and taught about quilt history and design at the Field Museum of Natural History and The Art Institute in Chicago.
